Proposition 8 – The Light at the End of the Tunnel

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThis is one of my favorite photographs.  Because the lights in this tunnel have been upgraded to LEDs, it is now impossible to capture these same colors.   But today, The Light at the End of the Tunnel represents (hopefully) the beginning of the end of the arduous journey for my friend and colleague Sandy Stier.  Sandy is one of the 4 plaintiffs in the proposition 8 case, which is being heard in the US Supreme Court today.   Despite the support from many and the lawyers involved, these past few years have not been easy for the plaintiffs.

Having to sit in courtroom after courtroom, listening to people say the most vile things about gays and lesbians, our children and our motives is not easy.  Actually, I don’t think I have the strength to subject myself to this type of soul-killing toxicity.    Anyway, here’s hoping that this is the beginning of the end and that the justices will rule in favor of marriage equality.
